NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – An FDNY firefighter suspended in June for reportedly posting what has been called a “nasty, vile and racist” photoshopped image mocking the death of George Floyd has returned to work.
The New York Post reported that Queens firefighter Daniel Ambrosio was back on the payroll after he was suspended without pay on June 6 for “violating Fire Department policy” in connection to the chatroom post.
Days after Floyd's death on May 25 at the hands of a Minneapolis officer who put his knee on Floyd’s neck, Ambrosio reportedly posted the photoshopped image depicting “a naked Black man sitting on Floyd’s neck” along with the caption, “Too Soon?”
Khalid Baylor, president of the Vulcan Society, a fraternal organization of Black firefighters, told The Chief-Leader newspaper of the online post: “It was nasty, vile and racist and can't be dumbed down to be just a joke.”
FDNY spokesman Jim Long told the Post in a statement that Ambrosio “has served his suspension and has been detailed to an administrative position while the department reviews / investigates the reported incident.”
The Post said Ambrosio didn’t return a request for comment.
